BUPA and Other Private Medical Insurance Providers – Update

We welcome everyone at our Physical Health physiotherapy clinic, whether you are paying for your physio treatment yourself or using private medical insurance (PMI) such as BUPA or AXA.

You may not be aware that many of the private healthcare providers do not pay our full appointment fees and some, such as BUPA, AXA and Aviva pay signifcantly less.

There are other insurance providers out there who would pay us less, such as Vitality, and we choose not to work with them because we cannot run a professional service based on such low fees.

Some of the insurance companies are requesting more and more administration from us in order to treat their clients. The reports we write for BUPA take a physio 20 minutes. If we are then asked by patients to chase the approval of a report, as BUPA are delaying continuity of treatment, that is more of our time spent on admin that we are not being paid for.

We have made a decision that we will provide our patients with the date any reports for their provider was submitted, and a copy of the report if needed, and it will then be the patient’s responsibility to follow up with their PMI provider. You are welcome to continue your treatment should there be any delays but our invoices will need to be paid in full by yourself and we can provide a receipt for you to give to your provider for re-imbursement.

Thank you in advance for your understanding with this – and if you’ve any questions, please speak to your treating physiotherapist.

The Physical Health Physio Team.
